Co-organised by Composers and Authors Society of Hong Kong Limited (CASH), Association of Motion Picture Post Production Professionals (AMP4) and Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), supported by the Music Copyright Society of China (MCSC) and the Macau Association of Composers, Authors and Publishers (MACA), the ‘AI-Assisted Music Creation Workshop and Seminar’ was successfully held on 5–6 July 2025 at HKDI.
The first day featured the ‘AI-Assisted Music Creation Lab’ workshop led by Programme Director Mak Chun Hung where participants learned to use AI tools to assist in creating original works within a limited timeframe.
In the afternoon, lyricist Oscar Lee and music producer and songwriter T-Ma shared their creative experience and industry insights, encouraging participants to draw inspiration from everyday life and develop their own artistic styles.
The second day continued the creative focus with a workshop on ‘AI Virtual Idol Sound Production’ where Programme Director Mak Chun Hung gave an in-depth look at the techniques behind virtual voice design.
This was followed by a seminar with guest speakers Mak Chun Hung (R2), Senior Lecturer, Department of Digital Media of HKDI Ken Lee (L1), and CASH Public Performance Licensing & Corporate Development (Education) Area Manager Terence Ng (L2) sharing the trends and future of AI music from the perspectives of creation, virtual idol technology, and copyright issue, and a lively discussion and Q&A session moderated by Assistant Professor, Department of Cultural and Creative Arts of EdUHK, Dr Leung Chi Hin (R1) for further engagement with the audience.
In the closing session, participants showcased their group work, followed by the premiere of the selected workshop-created music video, featuring the performance by Virtual Idol, Vi on HKDI’s outdoor LED wall.
The event concluded with guided tours of the V Music Library and HKDI graduation exhibition, where participants explored vinyl listening experiences and creative displays, gaining further inspiration for music creation.
